About Warthen Lane
From an early age, Al Woods, owner of Warthen Lane, had an eye for design and a love of history. He and his grandmother arranged plastic Easter lilies and poinsettias for what seemed to be all the graves in their small historic community of Warthen, Georgia. His father, a history teacher, taught him an appreciation for the architecture of the Old South through many country road excursions to find old houses, lost towns, and cemeteries. Many times, those excursions included an afternoon drive to Hancock County and always a ride by Glen Mary Plantation. Life comes full circle at times. After restoration of five historic structures, recognition from the Georgia Trust for Historical Preservation, floral design work featured in several publications, and a successful event business spanning twenty years, Warthen Lane at Cotton Avenue Market and historic Glen Mary Plantation are a perfect pair.
